पंधरा वर्षांपूर्वी इयत्ता बारावीमध्ये ९०-९५ टक्के जरी गुण मिळाले, तरीदेखील बहुतेक विद्यार्थी विशेषत: मुली 'डीएड'साठी इच्छुक असायचे. त्यावेळी प्रवेशाची गुणवत्ता यादी ८५ टक्क्यांवरच असायची.
२०११-१२ नंतर राज्यात नियमित शिक्षक भरती झाली नाही, नोकरीच्या प्रतिक्षेत अनेक तरूणांचे वय निघून गेले. विनाअनुदानित शाळांवर १०-१२ वर्षे बिनपगारी काम करणारे अनेकजण सेवानिवृत्तीच्या उंबरठ्यावर आले, तरी त्यांना पगार सुरु झाला नाही.
नोकरीसाठी 'डीएड'नंतर टेट, टीईटी बंधनकारक आहे. नोकरीला लागल्यावर पटसंख्या घटल्यास अतिरिक्तची भीती, समायोजनासाठी संघर्ष, जुनी पेन्शन योजना लागू नाही, अशा कटकटीच नको म्हणून अनेकांनी 'डीएड'कडे पाठ फिरविल्याची वस्तुस्थिती आहे.
त्यामुळे आता ५० टक्के जरी गुण असले तरीदेखील त्यांना 'डीएड'साठी प्रवेश दिला जात आहे. २०२२-२३ मध्ये ३३ हजार प्रवेश अपेक्षित होते, पण १४ हजार जागांवर विद्यार्थीच मिळाले नाहीत. यंदाही १६ हजार जागा रिक्त राहिल्या आहेत. आता शिक्षक भरतीची घोषणा व सुरवात होऊन सहा महिने लोटले तरीदेखील प्रक्रिया पूर्ण झालेली नाही.

दरम्यान नवीन राष्ट्रीय शैक्षणिक धोरणाची अंमलबजावणी सध्या टप्प्याटप्याने सुरु असून २०३० पर्यंत ते देशभर लागू होणार आहे. त्यानुसार पाच वर्षांत विद्यार्थ्यांना बीए-बीएड, बीएस्सी-बीएड किंवा बीकॉम-बीएड अशा दोन्ही पदव्या पूर्ण करता येणार आहेत. सध्या सुरु असलेल्या सर्व बीएड महाविद्यालयांना त्यादृष्टीने बदल करावे लागणार आहेत. दरम्यान, नवीन शैक्षणिक धोरणात 'डीएड'चा कोठेही उल्लेख आलेला नसल्याने पदवी करतानाच शिक्षक होण्याची पात्रता पूर्ण करावी लागेल.
